Hampshire FA Sunday Under 13s Cup

Hiltingbury Hornets U13s vs Liphook United U13s, 1 - 5

A first competitive game of the season for the U13s brought the first win in a sound display down near Romsey in the County Cup. After an indifferent pre-season with a lot of boys away, the team really needed a solid performance and that was duly delivered.

On a big pitch in blustery conditions we used the width well with Liam and Jimbo causing a lot of trouble early on. Liam in particular put a series of excellent crosses which normally Oscar and Jimbo would have converted. The boys got over their rustiness however with Jimbo cutting inside and finishing sharply.

With a solid defence and fullbacks Alex and Alfie advancing forward at every opportunity, Liphook’s new system worked well. Tom and Buss in midfield worked really hard and ran the game. Just before half-time, new boy  Tom ‘Buss’ Bussell capped an excellent debut with a good goal after Oscar had hit the crossbar.

It was then Oscar’s turn after Jimbo was released by Liam and cut it back for the number 9 to score, meaning Liphook were 3-0 up at half-time.

Inevitably with three subs coming on at half-time, Liphook were a little disjointed but found their feet when Oscar got his second with a fine placed shot through a crowded box. The home team got one back when they got behind our defence for just about the only time in the game but Alex soon restored the lead taking us to a 5-1 scoreline turning in Jimbo’s cross at the far post.

Overall, Liphook played well and could have run out winners even more comfortably if more of the many clear chances had been taken. The good point was though that our passing game got going and we looked more like ourselves in a good first game.

Team: Jozef, Alfie, Alex (1), Simon, Hubs ©, Joe, Jimbo (1), Tom, Oscar (2), Buss (1), Liam.  Subs: Aaron, Cameron, Jacob.
