Wet, windy and warm at the Liphook Tournament

Sixty-seven teams gathered at Bohunt School on 29/30 May for another very successful Liphook Tournament. Unlike the hot weather of the last two years, this time we experienced a wide range of weather conditions from wet to windy to warm sunshine, but the players were not deterred.

We would like to thank our main tournament sponsor Allianz Insurance for their support and Phil Godwin and Frances from Allianz for presenting the medals and trophies.

The raffle draw for the prize of a mounted special limited edition Portsmouth FC goalkeeper's jersey signed by Portsmouth and England goalkeeper David James was made by Lucius Peart, Head of Operations at Portsmouth FC, with Dave Long being the lucky winner.

A massive "thank you" goes to Denis Foster and all those that worked so hard behind the scenes to make this year's tournament a great success.

Liphook Knights strike again!

At the Beacon Hill Junior Football Club seven-a-side Tournament on 9 May, the Liphook Knights triumphed for the second year running.

Competing against six other teams in the Under 10s tournament, the Knights and a Beacon Hill team, both undefeated, battled it out in a nail-biting final match. It looked like a stalemate until, in the second half, Pirie seized the initiative and smashed the ball in to the top left-hand corner of the Beacon Hill net.

Full time celebrations

Well done to all the players who worked so hard and thoroughly deserved their champions' trophies.

Aldershot FA Junior Cup Runners-up

On a very bright, but cold, Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, supporters of Liphook United Reserves and Yateley Green Reserves gathered at Aldershot FC stadium for the final of the Aldershot FA Saturday Junior Cup.

After an such an exciting start, with a goal from Ben Travis after the ninth minute, Liphook United had many more chances but couldn't get the ball in the net again. Pushing back, Yateley Green equalised before half time, and then stepped up the pressure in the second half to score twice more.

Final score: Liphook United Reserves 1, Yateley Green Reserves 3.

Well done to Mark 'Willow' Morton and all the players who have represented the team on the way to, and in, the final.

Hampshire FA Cup Winners

After a brilliant performance by "Kev Adair's Blue & White Army", Captain Andy Luckhurst lifts the Hampshire FA Saturday Intermediate Cup for Liphook.

Andy Luckhurst lifts the Hampshire Cup for Liphook

Hundreds travelled to Andover New Street FC ground to support their teams, Liphook United and Netley Central Sports, on this mild spring evening.

Liphook dominated the game and took the lead in the second half when a Netley defender under pressure put the ball past his own keeper. Liphook then killed the game off with a goal from Paul Marshall that would have graced any Premiership game; he met a pin-point cross from Andy Luckhurst and, after hanging in the air for what seemed like an eternity, powered his header past the despairing keeper into the corner of the net.

Final score: Liphook United 2, Netley Central Sports 0.  Man of the match: Dominic Cope.

Well done to Kevin Adair and all the players who have represented the team on the way to, and in, the final.

Even so, as runners-up in the Cubs County tournament the team put up a brilliant performance, taking the Petersfield District to the final for the first time.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month - What a success!

Throughout October over 35 female teams and 18 referees in association with Hampshire FA made special efforts to raise money for Cancer Research UK's 'Join the Fight' campaign to combat Breast Cancer.

Pre-match warm ups in pink, raffles and games are just a couple of examples of how funds have been raised to support this important cause. Efforts by teams all across our county including Basingstoke Town Ladies, Widbrook United and Crofton Saints have made the grand total exceed £4,000!

Liphook United Ladies went the whole hog and turned their match into a fundraising event. Children took part in a penalty shoot out and even ran a competition to guess the number of balloons in a car! Refreshments were sold, along with running a raffle, tombola and cake sale. The total raised by Liphook United Ladies was an incredible £800, a massive contribution to the grand total. Players wore pink socks and sweat bands during the game and the goalkeeper even played in a tutu to mark everyone's continued support and awareness.

Justine Mosley, Women and Girls Football Development Officer for Hampshire FA who also plays for Basingstoke Town Ladies, said: "I am really pleased with the number of clubs and referees in Hampshire that supported this very worthy cause. The amount of work put in by some of the clubs has been absolutely fantastic! As well as raising awareness about breast cancer across the County, the profile of the female game has also been highlighted. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those individuals who have supported this campaign throughout October."

Liphook United Men's First Team - Hampshire Saturday Intermediate Cup Winners 2008

Liphook United FC played Nursling FC in the Hampshire Saturday Intermediate Cup final on 30 April 2008 at Andover New Street FC.

Liphook delivered an excellent performance against a strong Nursling side who certainly showed that they wanted the cup as much as we did, but our strength, fitness, speed and skill were evident for all to see.

The team beat Nursling 2-1 in normal time with second half goals from Dominic Cope (FA Man of the Match) and Adam Pierson.

Liphook United Under 15s - NEHYL U15 League Cup Winners 2007/8

Liphook United played Crookham Rovers in the North East Hampshire Youth Under 15 League Cup final on 27 April 2008. Liphook had reached the U15 semi-finals on three previous occasions but had just missed out on a place in the final, so the team were determined to make it a day to remember.

It was a very closely contested match. Liphook took the lead halfway through the first half with a goal by Liam Welch. Crookham came back with a goal in the second half, but, with five minutes left, captain Lewis Graham scored to lead Liphook to victory.
Final score: Liphook United 2, Crookham Rovers 1.

The players were presented with their trophies and the Under 15 League Cup by Geoff Bedford, chairman of the North East Hampshire Youth League.
